from CARNAVAL BRASILEIRO 2007 (Feb. 16, 2007)
Video from the Univision program "Latinopolis"
(in Spanish), photos by Ted Hall:
Due to the success of
Carnaval Brasileiro 2007
and the excitement of the
600+ attendees, I have been persuaded to organize this event once again,
bringing an authentic piece of Brazil to the Twin Cities for an incredible
evening.
I would like to thank all of you for your continued steadfast support
and
unbridled enthusiasm, and hope you can make it to Carnaval
Brasileiro 2008,
which I'm sure, with your priceless participation, will be the best
ever!

Brazilian "Carnaval",
the biggest celebration in the world, is
coming to Minneapolis, MN once again! We have put together a
phenomenal 11-piece band especially for this event. Beira Mar
Brasil,
led by Robert Everest, has expanded to include a horn section,
more heart-pounding hand percussion, and
2 Brazilian guests flying into town just for this event!!!
Dandara,
an exhuberant and dynamic singer who grew up in Bahia, Brazil,
where she sang with Carnival group Banda Relogio, and has been
singing this repertoire internationally for major festivals, will be
singing with us, along with
Edgar Oliveira, master percussionist from
Rio Grande do Sul, who will be
adding even more percussion and vocals to the band!
Those of you who have been a part of this celebration in
past years know that it is not something to be missed!!!
Sorry,
online ordering is now closed - you can either get them from Robert
at Maria's Café Saturday 12/9 between 11:30am and 1:30pm.
I will be selling them during my break around 12:30. Otherwise
you can get them at the door for $20 which, for this event, is
still a great deal!!! |
This year's Carnaval
Brasileiro will take place again at the beautiful nightclub
"Trocaderos" in the Warehouse District of Downtown
Minneapolis, 107 3rd Ave. North. It is a spacious hall with one of the
best dance floors you've ever seen, plus an elaborate and very powerful
sound system - a perfect venue for this event! Also there will be Brazilian
appetizers available, and bartenders will be trained in making Brazil's
most popular drink, the famous "Caipirinha" (KIE-PEER-EEN'-YAH
- to help you order one!). There will be valet parking for your convenience
(since it will probably be a little chilly out there!), or you can park
in many of the parking lots in the area (but not the lot immediately
across the street!).

For those
of you who don't have a costume, Goretti, a skilled artisan from Recife,
Pernambuco in Norhteastern Brazil has spent the last few months making
authentic Brazilian Carnival Masks, which she also made for Carnival
celebrations in Brazil for many years. She will have her own table and
you can purchase a wide variety of masks the night of the event - take
home an authentic piece of CARNAVAL 2008!
PLUS this year for the first time we have invited DRUMHEART, the percussionists
from the Women's Drum Center of St. Paul, to join us in our Brazilian
batucadas!
